Announcing the New PrognoCIS® EMR Feature: e-Prescription for Controlled Substances
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) August 14, 2013 -- Bizmatics, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of an e-prescription module for controlled substances (EPCS) through its electronic medical record software, PrognoCIS EMR. One of the very early providers of EPCS, PrognoCIS enables users to seamlessly and securely transmit e-prescriptions to pharmacies for DEA class I, II, III, IV, and V. The feature enforces two-factor authentication for prescription of narcotic drugs to ensure that drugs are not prescribed by unauthorized employees like medical assistants, nurses or administrative staff. PrognoCIS, as well as Surescripts®, keeps track of every prescription for auditing purposes. It then makes those prescriptions available as part of a patient’s medication history, regardless of where and by whom the prescription was given.

As suggested, exchanging prescription information electronically between physicians and pharmacies improves the accuracy of the prescribing process and saves time. Time savings primarily result from reduced pharmacy phone calls and faxes related to prescription renewal authorizations, as well as from a reduced need for pharmacy staff to enter prescription data.
According to the HITECH Act, e-prescribing systems are essential to achieving meaningful use.
