On August 20, Bay Fastening Systems, a full service distributor of engineered fastening systems, comments on the construction of the Scalpel Building in London, England.
In a recent article from Construction Digital published on July 22nd, titled “Skanska to Develop Striking the Scalpel Building,” author Jonny Williamson discusses the start of the construction of a building nicknamed the Scalpel Building, which will be located in the center of London’s financial district. According to the article, the 38 story building is being designed by “award winning international architects Kohn Pederson Fox (KPF) for use as the new European headquarters the W.R. Berkley Corporation, one of the world’s top property casualty insurance providers.”
The Scalpel Building got its nickname because of its sharp angles and edges, which make the building look like a surgeon’s scalpel. Construction will start in August and is expected to be completed in 2017. According to the article, the Scalpel Building will stand approximately 620 feet tall and include “a street-level retail outlet, a basement restaurant and a café.” The article says that it will be a great addition to the London portfolio next to the Heron Tower in Bishopgate, which is currently the city’s tallest building.
“The Scalpel Building will stand out in London’s skyline,” says Michael Eichinger, Vice President and COO of Bay Fastening Systems, a pop rivet distributor. “Its modern design will be quite a sight to see when construction is completed.”
According to the article, the building is expected to be the new headquarters for the W.R. Berkley Corporation, a global casualty insurance provider.
