Blindsgalore Awards National Women's Scholarship to Student
San Diego, California (PRWEB) August 11, 2015 -- Blindsgalore, a web-based retailer of custom window treatments, announces Katherine Bakke as the winner of the 2015 Blindsgalore National Scholarship. The winner's essay was chosen among hundreds of applicants from across the country. Katherine, a native of Portland, Oregon and Bryn Mawr College honors graduate, will receive $2000 to pursue her academic goals as she seeks to gain a Masters of Public Health at Harvard University this fall.
The Blindsgalore National Scholarship, partnered with the American Business Women's Association (ABWA), is an essay contest held annually and is open to women who are maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA in a college or university. The scholarship is presented through the Stephen Bufton Memorial Educational Fund (SBMEF), who have been assisting women achieve success through higher education since their inception in 1953. In 2015 alone, the SBMEF has awarded over $40,000 in scholarships to deserving women.
"Despite the many gains made since the inception of the feminist movement, role models can be hard to find and competition remains fierce for women pursuing professional degrees in business, STEM, law, and medicine. To have been selected for the Blindsgalore National Scholarship is a demonstration and reminder that I am indeed supported as I pursue my professional goals," said Katherine Bakke, the scholarship winner. "As I advance in my career in medicine and public health, I hope to model the generosity of the women who own and operate Blindsgalore, and help other women recognize their talent and potential as change-agents and leaders."
