‘Blood Legacies’ is gritty feminist fantasy adventure tale
KALLANGUR, Australia (PRWEB) December 01, 2014 -- A woman’s fight against betrayal, brutality, sexual deviance and her encounters with magical madmen await readers in the pages of “Blood Legacies” (published by Xlibris AU). Author K. Mareet’s new novel is a gritty feminist take on the fantasy genre that pulls no punches and takes no prisoners, promising to throw readers into a bizarre adventure where sword and sandals tropes and themes of female empowerment are blended together with a healthy serving of black humor.
The story is set in a world filled with fantastic creatures and races, where magic is real and the gods play their games to the benefit and detriment of the mortals they choose to use. The narrative follows Peregrine Evans, a naïve village girl whose life goes from bliss to hell when the man she marries gives her to his ‘Gentlemen’s Club’ in order to gain membership. Too bad for Peregrine that it is run by perverts and deviants with a penchant for debauchery and torture, as the betrayal results in her traumatic imprisonment.
She escapes but ends up having an encounter with magic-wielding madmen on a bloody quest. Between getting knocked down, knocked up, kidnapped repeatedly, rescued and ranted at by shape-shifting dragons and more, life is a laugh a minute for Peregrine as she discovers that she is destined for greater things and as her newfound powers lead to new responsibilities. As her trials and challenges grow larger in scale, readers will see her grit and determination, her refusal to give up despite the odds and her capacity to kick the rears of all those in her way.
In Mareet’s own words, “Blood Legacies” is not a sweet little fairy tale. It is a story of hardship, triumph, guts and grit, horror and humor. It shows the protagonists struggling not only to survive, but also to learn to live a life and love on their own terms.
