Costa Rica Surf Camp's Annual Conservation Contest
Uvita, Costa Rica (PRWEB) August 12, 2015 -- Bodhi Surf School, a community-engaged surf and yoga camp in Uvita, Costa Rica, is proud to announce its 2015 My Ocean Guardian Journey Contest. The contest is an environmental essay and photo contest that aims to recognize individual actions that promote conservation and impact-reduction; moreover, it aims to give momentum to the grassroots movement towards a healthy planet and flourishing oceans. The annual contest, entering its third consecutive year, is part of Bodhi Surf School’s corporate responsibility program, also known as the Ocean Guardian Journey.
As a business that relies heavily on nature, and as individuals who spend their free time in or near the ocean, Bodhi Surf and its staff recognize the importance of a healthy natural environment. Through its five primary Ocean Guardian Journey initiatives:
- Travelers’ Philanthropy Program
- Service & Surf Saturdays for local youth
- Yoga for the Community
- Ocean Guardian Pledge
- Ocean Guardian Contest
Bodhi Surf School intends to inspire individuals to make conscious decisions about daily behavior that will lead to lower-impact living on a day-to-day basis.
Travis Bays, owner and operator of Bodhi Surf School states: “One of our goals is to transmit the love and awareness we have for nature, particularly for our oceans, to those we come into contact with. We are not just surf and yoga educators, we are committed ocean stewards, or ocean guardians, as we like to say, and through the contest we want to recognize the great things others are doing for our oceans.”
Contest participants will have a chance to win prizes such as Bodhi Surf t-shirts, copies of Blue Mind, a book by renowned marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols, and this year’s grand prize is a Bodhi Sessions surf and yoga camp vacation package for two people. Participants must submit an essay of at least 500 words describing their action along with supporting evidence: two (2) photos and a letter of reference. Complete contest details can be found on the Bodhi Surf website, here. This is an opportunity for individuals to be recognized and rewarded for their environmental conservation efforts. The contest entry period will run October 1st through October 31st, 2015, and public voting will determine this year's winner.
The 2014 grand prize winner was Chantal Plamondon for her Earth-friendly business, Life Without Plastic, an online store offering alternatives to plastic products. It is actions such as these that the My Ocean Guardian Journey Contest strives to recognize, reward, and bring to the forefront as examples of what is possible.
