We realized that we were embarking on something pretty special. It’s not every day that you get to work with a brand like Oreo, and the technology that MAYA brought to the table was remarkable.
Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 03, 2014
Boxman Studios, the global leader in shipping container modification, recently created an immersive brand experience for Mondelēz International at the 2014 South by Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) Festival. Crafted from two shipping containers, the Oreo Trending Vending Lounge invited festival attendees to create and consume 3D printed Oreo cookies.
Upon entering the exhibit, guests could browse a selection of 12 "trending flavors," based on Twitter trends, displayed on a large touch screen panel on the front of the cookie machine. They would then make their selection, and watch their cookie being made. With cookie in hand, guests then headed to the milk bar and listened to music from a live DJ while enjoying free wifi - all hosted within the shipping container environment.
The social media blitz from Mondelēz, coupled with the fully-branded structure, attracted large crowds from all over SXSWi. The technology for the 3D cookie printing was created by MAYA Design, a technology firm and innovation lab. The machines used 3D printing technology to assemble the Oreo cookie in less than two minutes.
It was MAYA Design that originally contacted Boxman Studios about bringing the immersive experience together. “When we first heard about the project we were obviously intrigued,” states David Campbell, CEO of Boxman Studios. “The more we learned about the project, we realized that we were embarking on something pretty special. It’s not every day that you get to work with a brand like Oreo, and the technology that MAYA brought to the table was remarkable.”
Trending Vending saw some of the most social engagement and media coverage among comparable SXSWi brand activations. Utilizing the hashtag #EatTheTweet, Oreo generated thousands of tweets and the exhibit attracted upwards of 10,000 visitors (one-third of all SXSWi attendees) during its 5-day run.
