Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign Has Supporters Seeing Stars
Decode Digital spread life-saving information with space-themed fundraising events.
HOUSTON, Dec. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Knowing they had the power to change the lives of women across Texas, Decode Digital, a leading marketing agency in Houston, dreamt up #EarlyDEtection, a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of taking control of your breast health. This campaign not only highlighted the gravity of performing monthly self-exams; it also raised $4,206.06, which Decode Digital matched to create a final donation amount of $8,412.12 that will provide access to quality breast health care for 56 Texas women.
The proceeds benefited The Rose, a Houston-based non-profit organization that reduces deaths from breast cancer by providing access to screening, diagnostics, and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay. Through this donation, The Rose will be able to provide free mammograms for up to 56 Texas women in need. This donation was made in loving memory of Eileen Campbell, a breast cancer survivor who passed away in 2018 from a secondary cancer.
"My mother, Eileen Campbell, believed passionately in the mission of The Rose and the services they offer to women across Texas," said Kathleen Perley, founder and president of Decode Digital. "She knew firsthand that a breast cancer diagnosis leaves women terrified and unsure about their future."
"Too many women worry about how they will pay for a mammogram when they feel a lump, and if diagnosed, how they will pay for treatment. The Rose makes sure women who need access to quality breast health care get it. The Rose increases women's chances of survival," Perley said. "As a team at Decode, we want to hold tight and honor this mission that was so important to my mom."
The Check Yourself, Treat Yourself Pancake Breakfast had Decode's employees flipping out over their excitement to serve breakfast to supporters on October 2. With generous contributions from Fix Coffeebar and Snooze an AM Eatery, Decode served up 126 pancakes at this fundraising event.
The second event, the Sponsor a Unicorn Day: Early Dismissal for Early Detection, was held on October 19 and encouraged Decode's employees to raise money in exchange for a shorter workday, which resulted in 20 employees getting to leave early and 57 number of people donating to the cause.
The final event, the Feeling for Bumps charity volleyball game held on October 24, challenged Decode Digital to face off in a good-hearted match against a team from Method Architecture, a full-service commercial architecture and interior design firm with offices in Houston, Austin, and Dallas. With the promise that leads from each team would dye their hair pink if their fundraising goal was met, each organization quickly raised enough to guarantee two rose-colored hairstyles.
Throughout these events, Decode shared information about early signs of breast cancer and the importance of noticing them as soon as they develop. They urged women to know their normal, which is an essential first step towards detecting any changes. Decode also created and distributed an easy-to-follow infographic to teach women how to perform a self-exam, which can be found at DEtect.DecodeDigital.co.
