Nothing brightens the start of a new year like a new account – perhaps even more so when it involves orange. Just ask fundraising specialist Brewer Direct, which added Catholic Charities of Orange County to its expanding roster of nonprofits operating under the nationwide Catholic Charities banner.

The LA-based direct response marketer will produce a series of mailings for the southern California organization, targeting both current and lapsed donors. Initial campaigns will test responsiveness across several segments of the donor file, with plans calling for a major new donor acquisition push in Fall 2014.

Our strategy will be to reach those donors with messaging that not only touches hearts, but shows how their contributions make a difference.”

Talks between agency and client escalated last year following a nationwide Catholic Charities conference that attracted executives across the fundraising and donor development spectrum. Brewer Direct subsequently met with Orange County leadership, including board members, to share their integrated program for growing direct mail income. The charity embraced the agency’s testing strategy, creative and execution.

Another contributing factor: Brewer Direct’s success over the past three years handling direct mail fundraising for Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton. Agency campaigns for the New Jersey charity in 2013 produced a 15 % year-over-year gain in total donor income, beating projections by an impressive 44%. In addition, more than 1,000 new donors pledged their support for the organization.

With Trenton and the newly acquired Orange County business, Brewer Direct has been tapped by four different Catholic Charities organizations since the start of 2013 to manage their direct response fundraising programs. The others include: Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas; and Commonwealth Catholic Charities of Virgina.
