This and other similar events are designed to support the organization’s mission to preserve, protect and promote the unique history and rich culture of those that inhabited Great Smoky Mountain region. The flute played an integral role in the development of Native American culture, and was used for various purposes including healing, meditation, and even courtship.

Other recent therapeutic recreational outings have included events and visits to Chilhowee Park for The Gathering Fall Show, the Mabry-Hazen House Museum and the McClung Museum.
Brookhaven Retreat’s founder Jacqueline Dawes chose Tennessee as the location for the center for its beauty and rich history. “Changing the course of your life is a massive undertaking. Embarking on such a journey in a beautiful setting makes it much more pleasant and productive. There’s also opportunity for learning about the Native American elements and history of this area, such as with this festival, where clients were able to hear live music created for the very purpose of healing. Clients may not realize the added bonus to coming to Tennessee is the inspiration that can be discovered in the landscape and history.”
