Bureau of Digital Releases Digital Services Salary Data Survey
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (PRWEB) August 28, 2019 -- Bureau of Digital, a community for digital leaders, today announced the release of its 2019 Digital Services Salary Report, highlighting how firms compensate their employees and owners, and how that compensation relates to overall profitability and revenue growth.
The report findings help shop owners reevaluate their compensation packages, and help employees understand how their compensation compares to the larger market. The 2019 Digital Services Salary Report uncovers a variety of trends, including:
- Average salaries increase with firm size: Large firms (more than 50 employees) have the highest average salary at $78,000, compared to small firms (between 10-24 employees) whose average salary is $63,000.
- Small digital shops get creative with benefits: Smaller shops cannot always compete with larger firms when it comes to salary, so studios (less than 10 employees) tend to shift their employees’ compensation to non-salary items such as bonuses and profit-sharing plans.
- The future is bright: Owners are optimistic about the future, reporting an expected average top-line growth of 17% for 2019. To service this growth, owners expect to add 22% to their company’s headcount year over year.
- Remote employees come with more experience: Remote employees have an average of 10.3 years of experience versus 5.2 years for in-office employees. Remote employee salaries were an average of 23% higher than in-office employees.
As a result of the unique dynamics of digital shops, and because they consistently face a talent shortage, compensation often comes down to a best guess based on data that doesn’t focus exclusively on digital service companies. In partnership with Promethean Research, the survey pulled insights from digital service companies that ranged in size from less than 10 employees to more than 50 employees, across 24 countries and 43 U.S. states. It is based on the feedback of 1,082 employees and 123 owners from digital service companies.
“Remote work is a popular topic amongst digital agencies as more shops offer these opportunities to increase the candidate pool,” said Carl Smith, owner at Bureau of Digital. “Based on our data, remote employees on average come with more experience than their in-office counterparts, which means leaders have greater opportunity to work with more experienced colleagues and bring that expertise to their clients.”
