Shawna has been active her whole life and competed in swimming, free-style skiing and bodybuilding, all while managing her teaching career and a family. As if this didn’t keep her busy enough, Shawna found time to train friends and clients and inspire them with the enthusiasm she has for fitness.
Inspire she did. One of Shawna’s regular achievements was to take an average woman and have her doing chin-ups in no time at all. Most recently, she has focused her attention on an old-school exercise that doesn’t get near the attention it deserves: the burpee.
Why burpees? Simple, if you are doing burpees regularly, it is just impossible not to get fit. This one exercise burns a ton of calories, gets you stronger and more athletic, is great for building your cardiovascular capacity, and doesn’t require any equipment.
It may simply be the most effective exercise ever.
Anecdotal evidence on the effectiveness of burpees speaks for itself. Take almost any other exercise; jogging, running, push-ups, chin-ups and compared to burpees, they all fall short on how demanding they are. If you were to do one exercise for ten minutes straight, there is nothing that will come close to the intensity of doing burpees.
Shawna discovered that plugging in variations of burpees with other strategically organized exercises allowed clients to dramatically burn calories and build lean muscle in less time than other forms of exercise.
