Business attorney Brad Denton, a partner of Denton Peterson PC in Mesa, Arizona, has been admitted to practice in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the firm announced today. Denton will now be able to argue appeals cases in the regional court.

“We’re delighted by this professional advancement because it means that one of our most senior attorneys will be able to serve more of our clients at various stages throughout the legal process,” said Sterling Peterson, another partner at the business law firm.

Denton has been a practicing attorney for more than 20 years. He spends much of his time helping businesses protect their legal interests, such as deciding the right business structure, handling employee complaints, and defending against lawsuits from clients or other businesses. He helps with both litigation and commercial matters.

“By being able to practice in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, I will be able to represent clients who were unsatisfied with a lower court ruling and want to pursue additional legal action,” Denton said. “The lower courts don’t always get it right, and I can now help clients appeal some of those decisions with the goal of getting the desired outcome.”

In addition to representing businesses, Denton and other attorneys at the firm also represent individuals dealing with franchise issues, contract disputes, or real estate matters.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals includes the states of Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Oregon. It also includes the central, eastern, northern, and southern districts of California and the eastern and western districts of Washington. Finally, it includes the U.S. territories of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Appeals from all of these places are heard in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals was established in 1891 with the courts of appeals for the other nine judicial circuits. Additional judgeships were authorized for the 9th Circuit in 1891 and 1895, and then again in later years. The last judgeship was authorized for the 9th Circuit in 2009.

Not all of the current states and territories in the 9th Circuit were a part of it at its creation. Hawaii was not added until 1900, and at the time, it was a territory. Alaska was also added that year, when it was also a territory. Arizona was added to the 9th Circuit in 1912.

There are four meeting places for the 9th Circuit: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle. When the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals was established, the only meeting place was San Francisco. The other three meeting places were established in 1948.

Many distinguished judges have served on the 9th Circuit. There are currently more than 40 judges serving on the circuit.
Denton brings his considerable experience representing business and individual clients at all stages of the legal process to his appointment on the court of appeals.

“My goal is to help my clients protect their legal rights and minimize their losses when defending against lawsuits or litigating contract disputes,” Denton said. “I ensure that my clients understand all the legal issues at play and all the options so that we can create the right legal strategy together for the optimal chances of success.”

Denton Peterson PC represents business clients at all stages of their business histories, including those that are just starting out and need legal advice about the best entity to maximize profits and minimize liability, those that have been in business for a while and are managing employee or contract disputes, and those that are well-established and are now looking to offer franchises in their business. The firm writes and reviews contracts and other business documents, represents clients in arbitration and mediation, and litigates in court.

Denton Peterson PC has an office in Mesa and one in Scottsdale. Businesses are encouraged to call to speak to an experienced attorney about their legal concerns. Those who were dissatisfied with an earlier ruling may also wish to consult with Denton about the possibility of an appeal in the 9th Circuit. If necessary, Denton can represent the case all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court.
