Baltimore Maryland (PRWEB) December 03, 2013 -- GiftCardRescue.com, a leading gift card exchange company, today released their annual Top 20 Most Wanted Gift Card list for the sixth year. Topping this year’s list is Walmart, followed by Darden Restaurants, T.J. Maxx, Starbucks and Home Depot. This is the third consecutive year that Walmart has been ranked No. 1 on the Most Wanted Gift Card list.
Making the list for the first time are Trader Joe’s and Panera Bread. “The biggest change in this year’s list from the last is the rise of restaurant and food industry gift cards,” says Kwame Kuadey, Founder and CEO of GiftCardRescue.com. “It was quite surprising to see Darden Restaurants rise to the number two spot from fourteen, as well as, Starbucks to number three from the previous twelve.”
According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), an increasingly large number of shoppers are opting to give gift cards this holiday season. The 2013 NRF Gift Card Spending Survey found that gift card spending will reach an all-time high, with more than 80% of shoppers planning to purchase at least one gift card, a 4% increase from 2012. This year, the average shopper is predicted to spend nearly $165 on gift cards versus $157 last year, and total gift card spending will reach $29.8 billion this holiday season.
