Trevor Story Hits 7 Home Runs in First 6 Rockies Games
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) April 13, 2016 -- Colorado Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story hit a series of seven home runs in his first six games in the opening week of the season. He is the first player in the history of Major League Baseball to hit seven home runs in his team’s first six games. The previous record was six home runs, held by Willie Mays (1964), Mike Schmidt (1976), and Larry Walker (1997). Story’s accomplishment is especially notable because he has hit home runs against four different types of pitches: three fastballs, two sliders, one changeup, and one curveball.
It is possible that Story could tie or even break the record for the most home runs hit by the end of April. The current record is 14, held by Albert Pujols (2006) and Alex Rodriguez (2007).
The Rockies, along with the 2006 Detroit Tigers, are the only two teams to hit 14 home runs in their six opening games. They have another 18 games scheduled for April. The Rockies are scheduled to play three games against the Giants and then head to Wrigley Field over the weekend.
The Rockies are hoping that other hitters, including Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado, and Carlos Gonzalez will continue to perform well. They are also relying on their pitching staff, which includes Chad Bettis, Tyler Chatwood, and Jonathan Gray.
