Camp Corral Summer Camp Registration Begins for Children of Wounded, Disabled or Fallen Military Families
Raleigh, N.C. (PRWEB) February 04, 2014 -- For the fourth year, Camp Corral will send children from military families to a week-long camp at no cost. Since its founding, Camp Corral has grown to 20 camps in 16 states, and served over 4,000 children. Although any child from a military family is eligible, registration priority is given to children of wounded, disabled or fallen military service members. Registration opens Feb. 3, on its website http://www.campcorral.org.
Camp Corral is a one-week camp experience where kids, ages 8 to 15, are free to be kids, far away from the day-to-day challenges they face as children of wounded, disabled or fallen military service members. Camp Corral who partners with YMCA and 4-H camps, has proven to be a ‘week of a lifetime,’ providing kids non-stop fun with activities like canoeing, swimming, fishing, arts and crafts, ropes course challenge, archery, horseback riding and other camp and outdoors activities.
“Camp Corral is delighted to continue to increase the number of children who can attend summer camp for military families nation-wide. In addition to positive recreational experiences, Camp Corral helps children foster resiliency through learning new things and creating friendships with other kids who share similar family situations,” said Betsey Fortlouis, Executive Director for Camp Corral.
The dates and locations for the 2014 camps run from June 1 through Aug. 16 in 20 camps across the country including camps in Oklahoma, Texas, North Carolina, Florida, Colorado, California, Kansas, Ohio, Illinois, and Virginia. The initiative is new for states like Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina and Washington.
The program has also found advocates in people like Actor Gary Sinise. Known for several blockbuster films, Sinise believes in Camp Corral’s mission of making kids the star of summertime. “Children of service members, who’ve been wounded, disabled or killed in action, really pay a price too – when their moms and dads experience a life-changing injury,” said Sinise. “Camp Corral is a way for people to reach out and support these kids and their families. Camp Corral is a powerful way to help military families who have sacrificed so much for our country.”
Founded in 2011 by Golden Corral founder, James Maynard, Camp Corral is now a 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt, non-profit corporation based in Raleigh, NC. Building on Golden Corral restaurants’ commitment to honoring veterans and military service members and their families, founding sponsor Golden Corral has supported Camp Corral since its inception through an in-store fundraising campaign every April and May where they collect donations from their restaurant guests, with 100 percent of the donations going directly toward Camp Corral’s programs. In 2013, Golden Corral raised nearly $1.5 million for Camp Corral.
