Candidate Colleen Fanning Invites Voters in Indianapolis to Identify the City’s Priorities by Participating in an Interactive Online Survey
Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) October 07, 2015 -- Colleen Fanning, candidate for the City-County Council, District 2, seat in Indianapolis/Marion County, is inviting voters to participate in an interactive online survey to help identify the city’s priorities. The survey asks the question, “Which issue matters most to you in the 2015 election?” It can be found at https://colleenfanning.com.
In addition, the campaign is participating in an event called “Better Blocks on Broad Ripple Avenue” on Saturday, Oct. 17, that will give voters a chance to meet Colleen Fanning and chat about issues in person in a casual setting.
“Better Blocks is going to be a great event to showcase what a difference Broad Ripple Avenue improvements could make in the neighborhood. We’ll be handing out refreshments and chatting with neighbors from our ‘parklet’ station,” the candidate said.
Fanning has a history of involvement: She helped kids and parents at the Emory Autism Resource Center, worked as a volunteer on the Galapagos Islands and championed the issues of economic development and mass transit as a small business owner. Now she’s focusing her energy on serving Indianapolis, a city she loves and calls home.
The District 2 candidate grew up just outside Indianapolis and attended Zionsville Community High School. She later received a bachelor's degree in educational studies and linguistics from Emory University.
Fanning is running as a Republican for City-County Council. Her opponents are Democrat lobbyist Kipper Tew, and Libertarian insurance agent Sam Goldstein. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. She describes herself as a dog lover, sports fan, food & wine enthusiast and businesswoman. Her fans describe her as energetic, optimistic, hard working, and personable.
Here’s what one fan, Matt Holbrook, said: “I support Colleen because we share a desire to make positive and forward-thinking actions to increase the livability and the desirability of the area—retaining existing residents and attracting new residents, as well as investment into the area.”
Another fan of Fanning, Molly Butters Hale, had this to say: “Colleen has guts. Rather than passively complain about the direction of our city, she is actively trying to serve and make it better.”
Fanning is encouraged by the positive response to her candidacy.
“My voicemail has been full of friends and neighbors—and even strangers— wanting yard signs,” she said, calling such support, “Awesome.”
The candidate feels she brings a practical and pragmatic approach to governing.
“Politics has never been on my bucket list,” she admits. “Serving my community and being as engaged as possible in my city has been a priority throughout my life. Coming from the private sector, I have a record of connecting others, finding solutions, and ultimately creating a positive impact.”
With her outlook formed and forged by deeply personal experiences, Fanning is no latecomer to helping others. Examples:
TEACHING: “I worked as a teacher at the Emory Autism Resource Center, helping pre-Kindergarteners on the Autism spectrum and their parents improve cognitive language skills and behaviors.”
VOLUNTEERING: “I had always wanted to experience the third world, and I got my chance as a Kennedy School (Harvard University) World Teach volunteer. I spent a summer in the Galapagos Islands piloting an all-ages learning center for English as a second language in a global eco-tourism development effort.”
CRISIS MANAGEMENT: “When my dad lost his battle with cancer in 2009, I immediately went to work managing his company’s real estate portfolio in San Francisco. . . I strategically positioned the company’s assets in the midst of a severe economic downturn.”
The candidate’s professional experience includes owning the Brick Street Inn in Zionsville and working as the marketing and communications director of AquaSpy, an agricultural technology company. She currently owns Grey Market Wine and Ike & Fritz Ventures, a marketing consulting firm.
Active in the Indy Chamber of commerce for a decade, Fanning served as the President of the Indy Chamber Ambassadors in 2012, sitting on both the Indy Chamber Board of Directors and the Membership Marketing Committee.
