The all-new Cigar Advisor Magazine is an online cigar magazine that brings a fresh, irreverent, and down-to-earth perspective on all things cigars to thousands of smokers. In addition to educational cigar content and behind-the-scenes cigar industry articles from some of the business’s top names, Cigar Advisor delivers an array of content about a variety of topics of interest to people who enjoy the cigar lifestyle. The magazine also features cigar reviews and ratings submitted by real smokers. Cigar Advisor Magazine has posted an interview with CAO Master Blender, Rick Rodriguez titled, “Ashes to Ashes: An Interview with Rick Rodriguez of CAO Cigars - From Cigar Salesman to Master Blender.” With help from General Cigar's Public Relations Director, Victoria McKee-Jaworski, Rick tells how he got into the business, the hands-on training that turned him from a successful sales manager into a Master Blender, and how he developed the recently released Flathead cigars edition.

“About four years into being a territory sales manager, I was summoned to New York to have a meeting with Mr. Edgar Cullman Sr., the owner of General Cigar,” says Rick. “He started the meeting with this statement: ‘Your days of selling cigars for General Cigar are over.’ I thought I was being fired, but instead I was offered the opportunity of a lifetime. He asked me if I would like to become a cigar blender for General Cigar.”

Readers will learn about the intense training that took Rick from the office to the fields, and more. Rick was also fortunate to have General's premiere blenders Daniel Nuñez, Edwin Guevara, Jhonys Diaz, and Benji Menendez to guide him through the process.

“From the beginning, Daniel started teaching me about soil and seedlings, and had me working in the fields,” says Rick. “Once he felt I had enough knowledge under my belt, he had me work in every single aspect of cigar making.”

“Benji taught me that ‘Just when you think you know everything about tobacco, it will change on you,’” Rick added. “He also told me that ‘Tobacco is a constant learning process.’ He instilled in me that ‘A cigar is a living thing until you light it.’”
