Hartford Personal Injury Lawyer Joseph Morelli Comments on Fatal Coventry, CT Car Crash
Hartford, CT (PRWEB) September 11, 2013 -- Hartford personal injury attorney Joseph Morelli said today that a recent fatal car crash in eastern Connecticut serves as a reminder that it’s critical for drivers to obey traffic laws and exercise safe judgment while behind the wheel of their vehicles.
Morelli commented about a story in the Hartford Courant (“Victims Of Double-Fatal Crash In Coventry Identified,” August 21, which reported that speed is believed to be a factor in a Coventry, CT car crash that killed two eastern Connecticut residents.
“While the cause of this tragic accident is under investigation, police reports indicate that the vehicle involved was traveling at a high rate of speed. Many drivers might not think much about going a few miles over the speed limit, but speeding-related accidents can be devastating, as this story illustrates,” said Morelli, who represents victims of negligence and families whose loved ones were killed in accidents. “Our attorneys have seen first-hand the devastating impact of these types of accidents, and that’s why we fight hard to protect the rights of the injured and their loved ones. We encourage drivers to obey the speed limit and avoid distractions.”
According to the Hartford Courant, the accident was reported shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21. The car involved in the single-vehicle accident was traveling eastbound on Route 44 and struck a utility pole after losing control, the Hartford Courant reported.
The Hartford Courant reported that police believed speed to be a contributing factor in the accident due to the damage the vehicle sustained. Both the driver and passenger were killed.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims. Unfortunately, speeding is one of the top causes of car accidents in Connecticut and throughout the United States. When a driver is traveling too fast, he or she has less time to react to road obstacles and other drivers, difficulty maneuvering or stopping the vehicle, and is much more liable to lose control of the vehicle,” said Morelli, an auto accident attorney in Hartford. “Because drivers are traveling at an unsafe rate of speed, these accidents can be especially catastrophic. We encourage educational efforts to remind drivers to slow down, and parents should talk to their teenage drivers about developing safe habits.”
