Denver Car Accident Lawyers at Bell & Pollock, P.C., Weigh in on Report Detailing Self-Driving Cars and Road Safety
Denver, CO (PRWEB) March 15, 2015 -- Denver personal injury attorneys at Bell & Pollock, P.C., said today they hope predictions that self-driving vehicles will eliminate 90 percent of all auto accidents in the United States turn out to be true.
The lawyers commented on a Wall Street Journal report published March 5 and titled “Self-Driving Cars Could Cut Down on Accidents, Study Says.”
“We’ve been seeing stories predicting the positive safety impact of auto-piloted vehicles,” said Attorney Gary Bell Jr. of Bell & Pollock. “These reports give everyone hope for the future. As personal injury attorneys, we have seen firsthand the devastating impact of car accidents. We know that a serious injury or a death can result in so much heartbreak. Individuals and families must face the emotional and financial toll of the accident. Most of these crashes were caused by a driver’s careless or reckless actions. It appears that these self-driving cars could significantly reduce human error.”
While car accidents may be reduced in the future, attorney Bradley P. Pollock said the report illustrates that crashes are happening far too frequently in 2015.
“We all look forward to a future where car accidents and injuries are extremely rare,” Pollock said. “But of course we are living in the present when people die in auto accidents every day. Self-piloted cars someday could prevent up to $190 billion in damages and health costs each year and save thousands of lives, according to the Wall Street Journal. When a report like this comes out, it’s a good time to reflect on ways to become better drivers. It’s important to find ways to reduce accidents today.”
Bell & Pollock offers the following safe-driving tips to prevent accidents:
• Never drink and drive.
• Don’t use cell phones for talking or texting while driving.
• Avoid all distractions and stay focused on driving.
• Observe the speed limit and drive under the speed limit if road conditions are bad.
• Don’t drive while drowsy.
• Avoid tailgating.
According to the Wall Street Journal report, self-driving cars do have limitations. They cannot be relied upon to perform correctly in bad weather situations or where maps may be out of date.
Attorneys Bell and Pollock note that anyone who is injured in an accident or who loses a loved one should speak to an attorney. A lawyer can protect the rights of the victim by holding the negligent driver accountable, Bell and Pollock said.
