Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) October 16, 2013

Santa Ana, CA car accident lawyer Shehzad Ahmad today said a recent insurance company report listing several Southern California cities as having the greatest risk of accidents should serve as a reminder to all motorists about their responsibilities behind the wheel.

Ahmad commented on an Orange County Register report about Allstate America’s Best Drivers report (Long Beach ranks among top car collision cities, Aug. 29). The insurance company ranked 194 American cities in terms of accident risks. According to Allstate, some of the top California cities for car accidents include Riverside (ranked 110 on the list), Moreno Valley (113), Pomona (114), Huntington Beach (117), Corona (119), Orange (122), Long Beach (133), Santa Ana (135), Anaheim (142), Irvine (149), Pasadena (165), Garden Grove (167), Torrance (169), Fullerton (177), Los Angeles (181), and Glendale (190).

“With its beaches and moderate year-round weather, Southern California offers a quality of life unmatched by many other places in America,” said Ahmad, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “Unfortunately, one downside to living in California is that many of our roads and highways are more dangerous than the roads in other parts of the country. We hope that a list like this can lead to education efforts that get drivers to think about the consequences of dangerous behavior behind the wheel. Drivers need to stop texting behind the wheel, stop driving aggressively or driving after having too much to drink.”

According to the Orange County Register, which focused on Long Beach, one driver told the newspaper that many motorists don’t signal or will cut off other drivers at the Los Alamitos Traffic Circle in Long Beach, which tops the list of accident prone intersections in the city, according to the Traffic Engineering Division in Long Beach.

Allstate’s ninth annual report named Fort Collins, Colorado, as the safest driving city, reporting that a driver will get into an accident once every 13.9 years. That’s 28.2 percent less than the national average of 10 years, according to a press release by Allstate.

By comparison, drivers in one of the lowest ranked Orange County cities, Fullerton, experience an accident once every seven years on average.

The Allstate report states that car crash fatalities increased by more than 1,700 from 2011 to 2012, according to the most recent report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It was the first year-to-year increase in traffic deaths since 2005, according to Allstate.

Suggesting tips to avoid accidents, Ahmad said drivers should allow plenty of time to reach their destinations and always stay alert. Furthermore, he said drivers should avoid speeding; look out for pedestrians, especially children; understand the rules of the road; and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.

“If you are injured in a car accident, or if you lost a loved one, a personal injury lawyer can help pursue compensation for your losses,” Ahmad said. “An attorney can hold the negligent individual accountable and help send a message that dangerous driving behavior will not be tolerated on our roads.”
