Louisiana Auto Accident Attorney at Wattigny Law Firm, LLC, Comments on Report Ranking Louisiana Drivers as the Worst
New Iberia, LA (PRWEB) February 10, 2014 -- Louisiana drivers are the worst drivers in the country, according to recent study that did not come as a surprise to Louisiana personal injury lawyer James Wattigny of Wattigny Law Firm, LLC, in New Iberia, LA.
Wattigny said he was not surprised because he sees many serious injury cases in his office and knows that accidents are not uncommon. Wattigny’s comments came in response to an article published in The Advertiser of Lafayette, Louisiana (The Advertiser, “Instructors confirm state has bad drivers, Louisiana topped list in new report,” Jan. 11, 2014).
“I wish I could say I am surprised by this report, but I have worked for so many clients who were seriously injured through no fault of their own on our state’s roads,” Wattigny said. “I’m sure there will be some people with disagree with the findings of this report. And we agree that there are many safe, responsible drivers throughout Louisiana. But some drivers don’t think twice about texting behind the wheel or driving after having too much to drink. I hope these findings will serve as a reminder to drivers to be more responsible.”
The study, conducted by CarInsuranceComparison.com, was based in several different statistics, according to The Advertiser article. CarInsuranceComparison.com analyzed drivers based on five different criteria: fatality rate, failure to obey traffic signals, drunk driving, traffic ticketing rate, and careless driving.
Using these statistics, the company created a score for each state and the District of Columbia, according to the website for CarInsuranceComparison.com. The higher the score, the worse the drivers were rated for that state. Louisiana received the highest score, 220, and the title for the worst drivers in the country. Vermont received the lowest score, 48, to earn the title as home to the best drivers in the nation.
This is the second year in a row Louisiana topped the list of worst drivers, according the CarInsuranceComparison.com. Louisiana received especially low scores in three categories. The survey ranked Alabama 48th for careless driving, 47th for failing to obey traffic signals and 46th for its ticketing rate. As for as the other two categories, Alabama finished 41st for its fatality rate and 38th for its drunk driving ticketing rate, according to the study.
States that performed will in this study scored especially well in the careless driving category. CarInsuranceComparison.com noted. The web site specifically made a connection between careless driving and operating a cellphone while driving. Texting while driving is against the law for all drivers in Louisiana, according to the Governor’s Highway Safety Association website, which was last updated in January 2014.
“More Louisiana drivers need to focus on the road around them rather than activities that distract them from driving”, Wattigny said.
“Careless driving is dangerous driving,” Wattigny said. “That’s why more drivers need to pay closer attention to everything going on around them. They can’t expect to be able to do several different tasks at the same time and still drive safely/ Drivers need to focus. They need to take their time and make smart choices to avoid an accident. Of course, even in the ‘safest’ driving states, accidents still happen. If you have been injured by a distracted driver, you should seek the advice of legal counsel.”
