Kentucky Product Liability Lawyer at The Shelton Law Group Comments on General Motors Recall of 43,000 Vehicles
Louisville, KY (PRWEB) July 17, 2013 -- Louisville KY personal injury lawyer Rob Shelton of the Shelton Law Group today said he is monitoring the developments of a recent General Motors recall of 43,000 cars.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into whether General Motors has taken adequate steps to address safety concerns that prompted the company to recall 43,000 cars, according to The Detroit News, “Feds launch query into GM recall” (July 9, 2013).
“Safety must always be the first priority when it comes to serious product liability cases like car defects,” said Shelton, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “When something goes wrong in a car, serious or even fatal auto accidents can happen easily, even to the safest drivers.”
Shelton said personal injury lawyers can help protect the rights of someone injured due to a vehicle defect. “It’s a good idea to consult with an attorney if you or a loved one was injured in an accident,” he said.
Shelton said people with questions about whether their car or any other product is the subject of a recall can visit http://www.recalls.gov.
GM says it is inspecting the vehicles recalled in May and replacing the defective auto parts, according to The Detroit News article. However, the NHTSA has raised concerns about whether GM’s screening process to identify the defects is “adequate,” according to the news story. As a result, the NHTSA recently opened “a recall investigation into GM’s May recall,” The Detroit News reported.
In May, General Motors recalled 2012-2013 Buick Regal, LaCrosse and 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco vehicles due to defects discovered in the vehicle’s generator control module in nearly 43,000 cars equipped with eAssist, The Detroit News reported. This defect was responsible for a melting odor, burning and possible fires in the trunk, The Detroit News reported. These vehicles were also recalled because their batteries ran out of power, leaving the vehicles unable to start, The Detroit News reported.
General Motors became aware of the problems in October 2012, according to GM spokesman Alan Adler, who was interviewed by The Los Angeles Times, “GM recalls more than 38,000 Chevy, Buick hybrids due to fire risk” (May 6, 2013). The company temporarily stopped producing the vehicles and fixed the problem at its car manufacturing plants. Then in March 2013, a trunk fire was reported in one of the earlier built vehicles, resulting in the GM recall, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Shelton said Kentucky product liability attorneys at the Shelton Law Group will discuss legal options with people considering personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits related to defective vehicles that were carelessly designed built or sold. “We work hard to hold negligent individuals and companies accountable for their actions,” Shelton said. “By standing up for the injured, we hope to make the roads safer for everyone.”
