There are two fundamental reasons why the summer is the best time to buy a new car, he said. First, car dealerships get less foot traffic in the summer, giving salespeople more of an incentive to get a commission. Secondly, new-model cars tend to start showing up at dealerships in September and October, giving the the dealership itself a strong incentive to get this year's vehicles off of their inventory sheets.
“The bottom line is that consumers are in an extremely favorable bargaining position at this time of year,” he said. “But, of course, car dealers won't let customers know that. After all, they want to make as much money as possible. What we'll do is explain the situation to consumers and then tell them exactly how to strike a great bargain.”
