Every company, every industry and every specialty has its own lingo, yet, the terms and idioms of American business English have become the universal language of the global economy. When author and entrepreneur Carol Heiberger realized that there was no accessible resource, she decided to create it.

Heiberger’s “ExecuSpeak Dictionary”, first published by Lulu in 2010 and now undergoing a renewed marketing push, follows the tradition of other dictionaries, providing readers with a straightforward definition and usage of the word in a sentence. What truly sets her book apart is its relevance to the business world and the subject indexes. The terms are organized by alphabet and subjects – such as Dealmaking, Idioms, and Wall Street – to both simplify navigation and understanding for non-native business speakers. The style and content are consistent with the most recent science on language acquisition.

“We’re treating business terminology as though it were another language,” Heiberger says. “Business English is becoming the world’s shared vocabulary and our series aims to make it easier to use, easier to understand and, therefore, easier to collaborate and succeed.”

With companion smart phone apps and business services, Heiberger aims to expand everyone’s working business vocabulary.
