Carstens Announces Three-Year Agreement With HPSI

Carstens, Inc. announced that is has entered into a three-year agreement with HPSI Purchasing Services whereby HPSI will sell Carstens’ healthcare support products into long-term care and skilled nursing facilities.

Carstens is one of the nation’s top suppliers of patient record keeping solutions—from customized charting systems to cutting-edge EHR support. The company’s products are used for a variety of purposes, including secure medication dispensing, patient records management, supply storage, electronic equipment transportation, and technology integration.

HPSI is a group purchasing organization (GPO) based in Irvine, California. The GPO boasts more than 9,300 nursing homes, assisted living facilities, residential care homes, skilled care facilities, independent living communities, retirement communities, and other senior care providers in its healthcare membership.

“Our alignment with HPSI strengthens our position in the booming senior care market,” said John Pierson, Carstens’ director of strategic development.

The company already serves more than 4,000 of the nation’s hospitals along with other healthcare facilities worldwide. This agreement adds nearly 40 field representatives to Carstens’ current stable of more than 80 representatives in the healthcare segment.

“These representatives are a direct link to our customers and add tremendous value as an extension of our customer service and support teams,” said Pierson. “With their expertise in senior living facilities and understanding of our product lines, they are a knowledgeable resource for those who need to purchase both electronic and traditional patient record systems, as well as mobile and wall-mounted workstations.“

“Carstens complements our current vendor portfolio and allows us to offer members access to GPO pricing with one of our industry’s leaders,” said Greg Perron, senior vice president of contract administration for HPSI.

The new agreement between HPSI and Carstens has two pricing tiers. Tier one is available to all HPSI members and tier two is available to chains and individual facilities that meet volume and commitment requirements.

As a GPO, the organization combines the purchasing volume of all its members to negotiate significant volume discounts that an individual member could not achieve on its volume alone.
