Cassie Sharpe Takes Gold in Women’s Ski SuperPipe and David Wise Takes Silver in Men’s Ski SuperPipe at X Games Aspen 2019
Sharpe, the women’s reigning Olympic gold medalist, had her sights set on winning her first X Games gold in Aspen and did just that. The Canadian put down two solid runs, and came away with the win after stomping her third and final run. Sharpe stomped a flawless, technical run that included a left 900, right 900 into a flair, right 720, switch left 360, into a truck driver grab, and finished with a massive 1080. Judges awarded her a 94.00 for her efforts, which bumped her into first place.
Sharpe’s run was technically proficient and full of amplitude showcasing her undeniable talent and unsurpassed skill in the halfpipe.
“I needed this, I wanted this so bad!” said Sharpe following the event. “This is Aspen extreme, the big event, and I’m just so happy I was able to put down my run. I’m so thankful for everyone coming out. This has been amazing, and I’m so stoked I landed my run,” she continued. Sharpe also won a gold medal at X Games Oslo 2016 and took Bronze at X Games Aspen 2018.
In men’s ski SuperPipe Wise came from behind and stomped his third and final run with a silver-medal finish. Judges awarded him a 90.33 for his smooth, stylish run, which was filled with plenty of amplitude.
“What goes through my mind before I drop in, is that I assess everything, go through my run in my head, adjust what I need to, and then I just remind myself that I’m here to have fun and I just let it ride,” said Wise.
