The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Releases a Report Validating the CATALYST as an Advanced Rooftop Controller Retrofit Solution on Test Sites for the Navy
Kent, WA (PRWEB) May 07, 2014 -- Transformative Wave, developer of the CATALYST, North America’s leading efficiency solution for constant volume HVAC systems, is pleased to announce recently the National Renewable Energy recently published a report, “Advanced Rooftop Unit Control Retrofit Kit Field Demonstration: Hawaii and Guam Energy Improvement Technology Demonstration Project,” which highlights a successful pilot program of installation of the CATALYST on NAVAL bases in Hawaii and Guam. Transformative Wave’s CATALYST was selected as the only retrofit product for the field demonstration based on its previous successful involvement with other U.S. Department of Energy and utility-sponsored field demonstrations; incorporates all the advanced control features NREL had specified to demonstrate for the test; and can be packaged with the eIQ Platform for remote monitoring.
Danny Miller, President of Transformative Wave, comments, “It is a privilege to have been selected by NREL to participate in the demonstration project for the Department of Defense. The NREL report is yet another rigorous third-party evaluation of our CATALYST and eIQ products. The results once again validate the energy saving capabilities of the CATALYST and the value of the many unique features of the products when combined. The team of professionals at NREL have been great to work with and we appreciate their hard work and dedication to identifying emerging technologies with the potential for transforming the way buildings use energy. ”
Some highlights from the report based on the field demonstrations include validation of:
• Variable-Speed Supply Fan Operation - modulates the supply fan speed based on the mode of operation, moving only the amount of air necessary to meet the space demands.
• Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV) - DCV savings can be realized in humid climates such as Hawaii and especially Guam.
• Building Management System Functionality - the eIQ Platform that serves as a standalone Web-based BMS or can tie into an existing BMS. Beyond remote control of thermostat set points and occupancy schedules, the eIQ Platform can provide energy management and various levels of automated FDD.
• The CATALYST was the only retrofit solution to meet the five requirements of the field test: variable speed supply fan; web-based BMS or EMS control; demand control ventilation; demand response; advanced economization; and automated FDD.
