Center for Autism and Related Disorders Sponsors Central Park North Stars Special Hockey Team for 2018-2019 Season
NEW YORK (PRWEB) December 12, 2018 -- For the second consecutive season, Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) will sponsor the Central Park North Stars, an American Special Hockey Association (ASHA) team based in New York City. The sponsorship is part of CARD’s continued commitment to ensuring the autism community has access to a broad array of activities nationwide, in concert with its top-quality, evidence-based behavioral health treatment programs.
Playing at Lasker Rink in New York City’s Central Park, the North Stars are one of over 50 official ASHA teams for athletes with developmental disabilities who are age 5 and older. The North Stars accept players from all skating experience levels. The team is currently seeking players and coaches for the 2018-2019 season.
"With CARD’s sponsorship last year, we were able to have the funding for six official games and have cool jerseys and coaches’ jackets for about 30 players and 30 coaches,” said Bob Epner, director of the Central Park North Stars. “Plus, we have been able to continue our tradition of not charging to join the team which allows us to have players from all backgrounds. On behalf of myself and the whole team, we want to say thank you!”
ASHA supports over 75 programs in more than 70 cities throughout the United States. The organization enriches the quality of special hockey programs through training, education, and support.
ASHA is committed to helping the special needs community score life-changing goals for their teams, players, and families.
“We are grateful to have the opportunity to support this wonderful organization that allows individuals with developmental disabilities to experience the camaraderie of being part of a sports team,” said Doreen Granpeesheh, PhD, BCBA-D, CARD founder and CEO.
