According to the article published by CFO-Insight on August 8th titled “How to Improve Your Finance Leadership Hiring Strategy,” there is a lack of consistency in hiring approaches among top executive teams. The article says many CFOs are not as active as they should be in the hiring process. As a result, most companies hire the wrong person and end up firing them down the line.

A high turnover rate can decrease performance in employees and also cost the company a lot of money. The article says CFOs should help with key hires in leadership positions to ensure a company is getting the best person for the job.

Lawrence Teicher, founder of CFO Consulting Services, says there must be an adequate amount of planning before a company makes a key hire. “Hiring anyone is a big decision, let alone hiring someone for an executive or leadership position,” he says. “Hiring the wrong person could lead to a large decrease in productivity and profit. While it’s imperative for a CFO to make sure your company is financially able to hire someone, he or she should also be the one helping to secure the right candidate.”

Teicher says CFOs should be more active in the hiring process. “A CFO doesn’t only worry about money and finances,” he says. “A CFO is the best person to assess job candidates and help lead other executives in making important decisions, including new hires and operational projects. The CFO should work with the HR department to research candidates and see how well they could work with the marketing team. All employees must work cohesively in order to help the company grow and prosper.”
