Changing “History” to “Herstory”: Old MacDonald Gets a Makeover in Time for Women’s Equality Day

“Old MacDonald”, the classic children’s song is getting a makeover for the modern age.
Country-rock, Americana-soul vocal powerhouse star, Maggie Rose, and Grammy-award winning songwriter, Liz Rose, collaborated to re-imagine the song as “She-I-O,” a rousing anthem for a new generation. The song celebrates inclusion and champions women and it is being released just in time for Women’s Equality Day on August 26th.
“She-I-O” is the cornerstone of the new All Together Better initiative from Land O’Lakes, the farmer-owned cooperative that’s owned and run by 1,791 farmers, many of whom are women. Land O’ Lakes wanted to give voice to the untold stories of the women who work hard to feed this nation. Women comprise approximately one-third (1/3) of all U.S. farmers.
For this initiative, Land O'Lakes and the Land O'Lakes Foundation have also partnered with Feeding America to raise awareness around the issue of food insecurity. To honor the hardworking farmers who feed us all, Land O'Lakes will donate $1 to Feeding America for every share, tag or comment on any of the "She-I-O" music video content on Land O'Lakes social channels, as well as the "She-I-O" music track, available on SoundCloud and iTunes, up to $100,000. Consumers are also encouraged to use the hashtag #AllTogetherBetter to add their voice to the cause.
Maggie Rose and Lori Dotterer Butler, of the Dotterer Dairy Farm, partnered with Land O’Lakes on a nationwide media tour in conjunction with D S Simon Media and YourUpdateTV to discuss the initiative, how it came about, and what it means for women across the country.
She-I-O serves as a rallying cry for women breaking stereotypes not just in dairy farming but in every industry. The song is meant to celebrate the power of inclusivity and the role women play in modern farming. In short, it’s an homage to America’s hardworking women.
