Environmental Carelessness Reaches Critical Mass in Charles Smith’s New Novel
Suffolk, England (PRWEB) August 13, 2013 -- In his new science fiction novel, “Dangerous Commitment” (published by AuthorHouse), author Charles Smith reacts to a report by the World Wildlife Federation about Bengal tigers and their alarmingly low wild population. His thriller presents readers with a future which speculates on what might happen if humans continue down a path that results in further harm to the natural world.
James Hanley meets Carolyn Macy under mysterious circumstances. He comes to understand she is an alien from another planet and she and her companions have come to help Earth people save non-humans from extinction. James falls in love with Carolyn and agrees to help the aliens in their endeavor. His decision puts him in a life-threatening position, and to save him, Carolyn risks her own life.
An excerpt from “Dangerous Commitment”:
“James was beginning to see the similarity to what was occurring on Earth. He hadn’t taken much note of the way wildlife was being threatened on Earth, having implicitly assumed there was little problem. Now, from what Pierre was telling him, he could see that those people concerned for the wellbeing of such creatures as Elephants, Lions and Tigers, creatures requiring large tracts of land to live on, were signaling the start of a potentially huge problem for Earth’s wildlife.”
Smith drew from media reports about the decline in some animal populations for the inspiration to write “Dangerous Commitment”. “Complete extinction might be the end result of the decline taking place in the non-human world, but this is not inevitable,” he says. “If what is occurring now is seen as a smoke signal of a developing tragedy by ordinary people and their leaders, they may come to accept the need for urgent action.”
