ATMAE Re-Recognized by CHEA, Allowing ATMAE to Continue Helping Higher Education Programs Focus on Continuing Improvement
Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) August 30, 2013 -- Following a two-year long process led by Accreditation Director Rick Coscarelli and members of the Board of Accreditation, the Council on Higher Education Accreditation, CHEA, has again recognized ATMAE as a specialized accreditor for technology and applied engineering degrees.
ATMAE's Accreditation program, under its former name, NAIT, was initially recognized in 2002. As a result of CHEA’s re-recognition, the ATMAE Accreditation program remains the specialized accreditor for degree programs within ATMAE’s current scope of accreditation:
“Associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degree programs in technology, applied technology, engineering technology, and technology-related disciplines delivered at national or regional accredited institutions in the United States.”
At its meeting on April 29th and 30th, the CHEA Board of Directors took formal action following the report of its Committee on Recognition. That decision was formally expressed by CHEA as follows:
Decision: Recognition for up to ten years with a report in one year.
The CHEA Committee on Recognition and the Board of Directors reviewed the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). The review was based on the six CHEA recognition standards that require an accrediting organization to show that its accreditation process advances academic quality, demonstrates accountability, encourages self-scrutiny and planning, employs fair and appropriate procedures, and demonstrates ongoing review of practice, and that it possesses sufficient resources to carry out its accreditation processes.
ATMAE demonstrated that it meets these standards and that its accreditation process is consistent with the quality improvement and accountability expectations that CHEA has established.
“CHEA Accreditation legitimizes the ATMAE Accreditation process. Our process helps our accredited programs focus on continuous quality improvement and the long term success of their students. In other words, CHEA holds us to the same standard we hold our accredited programs.” Rick Coscarelli, Director of Accreditation, ATMAE.
CHEA acts a neutral third party that assures that the accrediting body “has reviewed the quality of the education provided and has found it satisfactory, based upon appropriate peer expertise.” Coscarelli, continues, “It is quite an arduous task. Our entire team, and the accredited institutions worked together to gather the data and ensure the quality of the programs shines through.”
ATMAE finds that their accreditation shows parents and potential employers that the student has earned a degree that is high quality, seeks continuous improvement and is a reliable source of solid academic background. To see a list of programs currently accredited by ATMAE, click here.
