The Chitimacha Louisiana Open held their annual luncheon on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 to thank its sponsors and awarded more than $205,000 from this past years' tournament to various charities.
"Over 52 non-profits, charities, or youth organizations are recognized by this tournament all across south Louisiana," said Danny Jones, Chitimacha Louisiana Open Tournament Director. "We try to get involved with as many of these organizations around the area as we can. We hope that the list just continues to grow."
A few of the charities who benefited from the tournament are: 4-H Youth Development Organization, Animal Rescue Foundation of Louisiana, Chitimacha Youth, Hearts of Hope, Hospice of Acadiana, and many more.
This was the 27th year of the Louisiana Open and in the past 27 years, the tournament has raised and donated nearly $5 million to charities in the Acadiana area.
"The Chitimacha Louisiana Open continues to be the highlight of the year in South Louisiana and we are thrilled that we are able to give back to the communities in our area," said Melissa Darden, Chairman of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana, who was representing the title sponsor. "I can see how dedicated the staff, board of directors, and all involved are with the Louisiana Open. We are really honored to be a part of it and we are pleased to announce the continuation of our partnership for the next year.”
The 28th Chitimacha Louisiana Open will kick off on Sunday, March 17, with the Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel Hole-In-One and the championship beginning on Thursday, March 21, until Sunday, March 24, at Le Triomphe Golf and Country Club in Broussard, La.
