Chloe Kim Win’s Halfpipe and Ståle Sandbech Takes Second in Slopestyle at LAAX-OPEN
LAAX, Switzerland (PRWEB) January 20, 2019 -- Monster Energy would like to congratulate Chloe Kim and Ståle Sandbech for their performances at the LAAX-OPEN in Switzerland, one of the most prestigious snowboarding events in Europe that brings top riders to include amateurs, rising stars and next generation featuring competitions in both slopestyle and halfpipe.
In her usual style Kim absolutely destroyed the competition in women’s halfpipe as she came out swinging and determined to win in LAAX. The Olympic Gold medalist and fan favorite, fulfilled expectations by placing first in the semi-finals, and then went on to dominate the same-day finals.
Her first run set her atop the podium with a huge score of 93.75, which no other rider was able to come close to. Kim was poised and in control on her winning run, which consisted of a huge Method, back-to-back 1080s, a Frontside 900 and ended with a Backside 360 Stalefish. Kim’s style and technical prowess were unmatched and she clearly earned the win amongst her field.
Following the event, Chloe said: “I was nervous about the night finals, but it turned out really well, the ladies were killing it! Thanks for having us Laax!”
On the men’s side of things in the slopestyle division, it was Norwegian powerhouse, Sandbech, who rode his way to second place in finals. Sandbech is no stranger to Laax, and rode in finals with confidence and unparalleled style. Despite bobbling on his first fun, he was able to put things together for his second run, which was full of amplitude. He stomped a series of spins and technical rail tricks, along with a massive Cab 1440, which catapulted him into second place.
“This week has been unbelievable!” Said Sandbech after the event. “We got here and the first practice days were cancelled, so we rode pow all day long, then we had a practice day while riding pow. I qualified in first and then rode to the top of the mountain, rode more snow and now finals day is over and I ended up in second place! I’ve had the best pow runs of my life and a podium in one week. Unbelievable!”
