New Book Offers Golf Analogies for Job Search Help
COSCOB, Conn. (PRWEB) July 21, 2015 -- Author Chuck McConnell seeks to stop the cycle of job searchers who buy self-help books that sit on the shelves because of unintelligible solutions or simplistic answers that appear generic or sophomoric. His approach takes readers on an analogical thought trip, comparing career search stress to what he sees as equally confounding golf preparation issues in his new book, “Conquer Your Yips: Win the Employment You Target: How Understanding Golf Stress Defeats Job Search Stress” (published by Archway Publishing).
“Some of the same mandatory elements creating success on the golf course are helpful in building a competitive search platform,” McConnell says. “Simple factors and terms like, foundation, stance, balance, grip, follow through, planning, preparation, research, confidence and direction are easily understood and, strangely, quite applicable to both efforts.”
“Conquer Your Yips” plays on the word “yips” as a common term used to describe the uncomfortable feeling of stress on the golf course. The book breaks away from the job-hunting self-help crowd by avoiding the often-patronizing step-by-step didacticism that can be associated with the genre. Rather, McConnell’s book is fashioned similarly to “Harvey Penick's Little Red Book: Lessons And Teachings From A Lifetime In Golf,” in that the chapters may be read individually as standalone ideas.
McConnell takes readers out to the sports venue, where even non-golfers can visualize the sport stress dilemmas and understand the corrective measures he advocates to conquer them: the yips in golf – and in interviews. The practical and time-tested realities McConnell has used in assisting candidates to defeat search stress for 20 years present an interesting and fresh concept when analogized with golf.
