CICB Expands Training Programs for Articulating Boom Crane Operators
HOUSTON and ORLANDO, Fla. (PRWEB) December 12, 2018 -- The versatility of the articulating boom cranes, or knuckle-boom cranes, has made it a popular choice for the construction industry in today’s market. The current regulatory requirements, coupled with increase applications of these cranes in the field, has accelerated the growth in Articulating Crane Operator certification. To address the high demand for preparatory training and certification exams, Crane Inspection & Certification Bureau (CICB) has expanded their offerings of NCCCO Articulating Crane Operator programs.
Articulating cranes, primarily known for material delivery, have gradually been adopted to perform tasks that were previously handled by telescopic boom mobile cranes. “The many tasks that articulating cranes are being used for has led to some confusion as to if the operators are required to be certified under OSHA 1926 Subpart CC” said Jerry Longtin, CICB’s General Manager. OSHA defines construction as “work for construction, alteration, and/or repair, including painting and decorating.” The delivery of construction materials is typically classified as “general industry,” but, if a crane facilitates a construction activity while delivering materials, then that is considered “construction” and Subpart CC rules apply
Joel Oliva, the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) Director of Operations, referenced that, “Last year CCO Articulating Crane Operator certification became the second most popular CCO certification program (after mobile cranes), reflecting the increased market acceptance of ‘knucklebooms’ and loaders in the U.S. market.”
