Cigar Advisor Provides a Guide to Pairing Cigars and Liquor

I know few people who smoke cigars regularly without something to accompany their smoke.

Easton, PA (PRWEB) December 15, 2013

The all-new Cigar Advisor Magazine is an online cigar magazine that brings a fresh, irreverent, and down-to-earth perspective on all things cigars to thousands of smokers. In addition to educational cigar content and behind-the-scenes cigar industry articles from some of the business’s top names, Cigar Advisor delivers an array of content about a variety of topics of interest to people who enjoy the cigar lifestyle. The magazine also features cigar reviews and ratings submitted by real smokers, and much more. Cigar Advisor Magazine has just published an article entitled, "Cigars and Liquor: Understanding the Basics of Pairing." The article was written as a basic primer on finding good cigar and liquor pairings, and is broken into three main sections: palate cleansing, after-dinner pairings, and day drinking.

In the article, Cigar Advisor contributor SeanMike Whipkey discusses several categories of spirits, beginning with two that he contends are under-appreciated among cigar smokers: gin and vodka. Whipkey argues that the palate-cleansing effects of these spirits can greatly enhance the enjoyment of a premium cigar, although overly aromatic or stronger-flavored gins and vodkas won't work.

Whipkey then focuses on spirits taken "neat" - no ice, water, or mixers. These include brandy varieties Cognac and Armagnac, Calvados, aged rums, Scotch, and Irish whiskey. He ends his discussion with American whiskeys, specifically bourbon, rye, and American specialties like un-aged corn whiskey.

"I know few people who smoke cigars regularly without something to accompany their smoke. I had a boss who preferred strong coffee. Others like beer or wine. Personally, I think matching up a cigar with the right liquor can make both of them sing in ways that will make you happy all the way to your toes," he writes.
