WEST COVINA, Calif., Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Dr. Sergio Hernandez, medical director of the emergency departments at Citrus Valley Health Partners, has received the Community Emergency Medicine Excellence Award by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP)—the nation's largest and most prestigious Emergency Medicine network in the world. The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution in advancing emergency care and/or health care within the community in which they practice.
"I didn't do it alone," Dr. Hernandez said. "Everyone on the team has worked hard so that our community can trust that they will receive the very best care when they come to our hospitals. It's what they deserve."
Dr. Hernandez was presented with the award during ACEP's annual emergency medicine conference held October 1-5 in San Diego, Calif. "We are transforming how we deliver exceptional patient care in the region and we are proud of Dr. Hernandez's leadership," said the health system's CEO & President Rob Curry.
A member of the Vituity health care provider group, Dr. Hernandez oversees the emergency departments at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, Inter-Community Hospital in Covina and Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora.
"Dr. Hernandez is a proven leader with a passion for the translation of the way emergency care is delivered to the patient bedside out into our communities," said CEO Rob Curry. Waiting time for patients from arrival to being seen by a doctor have been reduced from 90 minutes to 20 minutes and Left Without Being Seen rates fell to approximately 1 percent at all three Citrus Valley Health Partners (CVHP) hospital locations. "These improvements enabled CVHP to better serve the community, accommodating 10 percent more patient visits year over year. The result has been an elevation of CVHP from the bottom 20th percentile of hospitals in the United States to the top 15th percentile in patient satisfaction," added Curry.
The turnaround has been so extraordinary that Vituity awarded Citrus Valley with its Practice of the Year Award in 2017 in recognition of the hospital system's substantial improvements in patient satisfaction scores and patient care throughput, as well as successful implementation of clinical integration initiatives and programs.
