Women are all too often the victims of violent crime, and media outlets are filled with stories of missing females of all ages. The recent discovery of three women in Cleveland who had been held captive for a decade is only one of many such horrific stories to make headlines in 2013. Author Claire Miles takes inspiration from real life and investigates the case of three missing women in her suspenseful new novel, “Secrets, Sex, and Lies” (published by Trafford Singapore).

Set in an isolated area of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, “Secrets, Sex, and Lies” follows the adventures of Detective Denise Davidson as she sets out to solve a mystery that has remained unsolved for years. Twelve years ago, three young women disappeared around the same time from the same area, and no one has heard from them since.

Determined to solve the case, Denise sets her sights on Michael Farraday, a local man who spends a lot of time sitting in his car watching women. He is considered to be the prime suspect. Denise vows to find out what motivates this behavior and begins to investigate whether or not he could be responsible for the disappearances 12 years ago. Her subsequent collaborative relationship with Michael leads to the complicated answer to this mystery that will leave readers guessing until the very end.

“Secrets, sex and lies do not always lead to happy endings,” Miles notes, “Do you come clean and tell the truth or do you try to keep the results of these deeds hidden forever? The truth often has a strange way of coming out.”
