COALITION FOR AMERICAN VETERANS CANDIDATE HIGHLIGHT: Alan Swain, a retired Army veteran with 26 years of service, is running for Congress in North Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District.

Swain, a resident of Raleigh, retired as an Army Colonel after a distinguished career. A graduate of The Citadel and Auburn University in 1989, he joined the Army as a Combat Arms Field Artillery Officer. Following a tour in Germany he attended Army Flight training and later flew AH-1 Cobras and AH-64 Apache helicopters. He commanded soldiers at all levels, performed test pilot duties, and (as Executive Office to the White House Drug Czar under George W. Bush) has seen the impact of the ongoing opioid crisis and what works and does not work.

“I am frustrated and disappointed with the Congressional gridlock and lack of bipartisan effort in Washington D.C.,” Swain says on his campaign website. “Never ending impeachment proceedings rather than doing the work that is needed for the American people on key issues.” Swain is campaigning on those “key issues,” with a focus on healthcare, immigration, infrastructure, gun rights, and education.
