Horizon Promotes the Rev. Clifford and Mrs. Ollie Mae Griffith Memorial Scholarship
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (PRWEB) December 29, 2014 -- Horizon Scholarship Services is pleased to announce the Rev. Clifford and Mrs. Ollie Mae Griffith Memorial Scholarship through Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn.
The Rev. Clifford and Mrs. Ollie Mae Griffith Memorial Scholarship—which is fully administered by the university—currently offers two awards of $250 annually. In the future, the award amounts will increase depending on the availability of funds. Scholarship eligibility is primarily based on a minimum 2.5 GPA and minimum 20 ACT score. The scholarship also places a strong emphasis on community service and volunteering.
“Applicants must write an essay describing their community service experience and why they feel volunteering is important,” said Tracy Barbour, the founder of Horizon Scholarship Services. “Therefore, the scholarships will be awarded not necessarily to the 'best and brightest' students—but to those who are willing to serve their community and who truly care about helping others.”
The Rev. Clifford and Mrs. Ollie Mae Griffith Memorial Scholarship is an outgrowth of Horizon Scholarship Services, which helps to fund the scholarship through its volunteer efforts. Essentially, Horizon collects contributions from the students that it assist, businesses and the general public, creating a win-win situation for everyone involved. “Donating to the scholarship fund gives students and other individuals a wonderful opportunity to invest in youth and give back to the community at large,” Barbour said.
