Colorado Whitewater Rafting Company Set to Open Next Month
Buena Vista, CO (PRWEB) March 19, 2014 -- River Runners, a Colorado whitewater rafting company with two locations on the Arkansas River, announced it will offer guided rafting trips by appointment starting April 4 and will be open daily May 1 – September 1, 2014.
Colorado's Upper Arkansas River Basin Snowpack is 134% of average and water managers have started releases from Clear Creek and Twin Lakes Reservoirs to make room for the spring runoff, according to Travis Hochard, general manager, River Runners.
“The Arkansas River is already running at great flows for whitewater rafting and I expect the water level to be above average for a majority of the season,” Hochard said. “This is great news after two years of drought in Colorado.”
Spring runoff on Colorado’s Arkansas River typically begins around the second or third week of May and the river usually remains high through the end of June, according to Hochard.
“High water makes the waves bigger and the rapids become more exciting,” Hochard explained. “The best time to see high flows is likely between the last week of May and the third week of June, but in a year like this it can go well into July.“
The High Water Special at River Runners is a buy one, get one half off promotion for full-day rafting trips booked by March 31, 2014, but you must raft May 15 – June 15, according to Hochard. He said you can book this deal on the company’s website at http://www.whitewater.net using discount code HIGHWATER.
River Runners has two locations on the Arkansas River: one at the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park turn-off, eight miles west of Canon City, Colo.; and one at the put-in for Browns Canyon, six miles south of Buena Vista, Colo. Choose from half-day, full-day and overnight rafting trips on beginner, intermediate and advanced whitewater. Call 800-723-8987 to speak with a whitewater professional.
