Colorado State University Global and Freedom Learning Group Partner to Provide Unique Employment Pathway for Military Spouses
Program provides opportunity to obtain high-quality academic credentials and workplace skills that lead to meaningful employment from anywhere in the world
AURORA, Colo., Oct. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Colorado State University Global (CSU Global) and Freedom Learning Group (FLG) have partnered to create an innovative initiative to assist military spouses in earning high-quality academic credentials while gaining meaningful and mobile employment in the education sector.
CSU Global will provide military spouses with high-quality education, while FLG will offer employment in e-learning and instructional design. Partnering these real-world skills with academic coursework will result in a win-win for military spouses, many of whom want to reapply, not replace, their hard-earned professional experience.
All participants in the program's first cohort have already secured meaningful employment, and have earned a fully accredited Graduate Certificate in Digital Instructional Architecture from CSU Global.
Both CSU Global and Freedom Learning Group are educational partners within the U.S. Department of Defense's Military Spouse Employment Program. CSU Global attended its first official induction ceremony in Washington D.C. on October 22, 2019.
"As a third generation Army Veteran and military family member, I know just how frustrating it can be for spouses to find lasting employment," said CSU Global Provost Dr. Karen Ferguson. "It is our privilege to provide all of our students with innovative solutions that serve both their academic and professional goals. We are here to partner with students and employers while we redefine the higher education paradigm."
CSU Global is a pioneer in the online education space designed for working adults looking to pursue affordable high-quality, career-focused academic programs. CSU Global is dedicated to supporting students as they advance in their profession or transition into new careers. The university's focus on flexibility and return on investment makes it a preferred choice for many active duty, veteran, and military families. Over 20 percent of its student body have military affiliations and the university is regularly recognized as a military-friendly university.
As a veteran-owned and military-spouse-operated organization, FLG is dedicated to providing high-quality instructional design services to its clients while contributing to worldwide open educational resource (OER) initiatives. "This program is a high-impact combo-punch furthering two FLG initiatives: increasing military spouse employment and growing high-quality open educational resources," said FLG Cofounder and CEO Nathan Ecelbarger. "These incredible military spouses worked directly with our staff over 16 weeks, learned the art and science of writing quality educational content, added OER for the global benefit of students and faculty, and are now hired to continue their contribution for our clients and partners. It works, and it's highly scalable."
"As a biochemist and technical writer, being unable to find work in my field and being unemployed overseas with a master's degree has been a sobering consequence of being a military spouse," said Mariah Covington, a graduate of the program's first cohort. "FLG has finally created a great solution. I'm working in my field, earning a competitive income, and contributing to the education industry while continuing my professional development at multiple levels."
