CompareCards Announces “Financially Literate Youth” Grant Program
Charleston, SC (PRWEB) June 24, 2014 -- Today CompareCards, a credit card comparison site, opened the application process for its Financially Literate Youth (FLY) program. CompareCards is offering four, $5,000 grants to be used for financial literacy programs in schools.
“We’ve offered financial education for a few years through our Education Center. While thinking over ways we could expand upon what we currently offer, we decided to take things in a more impactful direction by providing funding for schools to implement a program of their choosing,” said Chris Mettler, President of CompareCards. “This gives educators the necessary funding to implement financial literacy programs that they possibly don’t have access to.”
To be eligible, schools must be a public, private, or charter K-12 school located in the United States. The school must have already implemented or is looking to implement a financial education program and must share overall results with CompareCards upon the program's completion.
Applications will be reviewed by a grant committee consisting of CompareCards employees and community members. Applications will be evaluated based on the quality and feasibility of their proposed or existing program(s) and the potential of their program to effectively educate youth about financial choices.
Applications must be received by August 8th, 2014, and the final four recipients will be notified by October 1st, 2014.
“One of the biggest obstacles schools face in implementing a financial education program is funding. By supplying the awarded schools with a grant specifically for a financial education program, our hope is that these educators can really teach students positive financial behaviors, arming them with tools that will help them make smart financial decisions in the future,” said Mettler.
