This is a significant step forward for food processors looking for an added measure of pathogen reduction. Especially those processors concerned about moisture control.

Cross-contamination from footwear can come from inside or outside the processing plant, making it necessary for food processors to implement a footwear program in their facilities. Best Sanitizers, Inc. has developed a complete footwear cleaning and sanitation program to help improve food safety measures in food processing plants. Without a dedicated footwear cleaning and sanitation program, food production facilities are at risk of workers bringing contaminants into their facilities. Best Sanitizers, Inc. has compiled a variety of options to give food manufacturers effective tools for maximum pathogen reduction on footwear.
Similar to an effective hand hygiene program, footwear should be cleaned prior to sanitization to remove any dirt or debris on the bottom or sides of the footwear. Sanitization is not effective if footwear is not first cleaned. Best Sanitizers, Inc. offers a full line of boot scrubbers, making it easy for food processors to find a custom footwear cleaning solution to suit the needs of their plant. The BSX Boot Scrubbers series include the BSX100, BSX200, BSX400 and BSX600 Boot Scrubber Units for facilities with a smaller number of production employees. To operate, the user steps onto the platform and the system is activated. Depending on the facility’s needs, units operate manually by the user moving their foot back and forth or mechanically with motorized rotating brushes. There are wet units which combine a cleaning chemical and water into a solution which is applied to footwear and dry units which can be run in facilities not wanting to increase moisture. For all wet units, Alpet® No-Rinse Quat Sanitizer is sprayed onto the boot and brushes to aid in the cleaning of footwear.
For facilities with a medium to high number of employees, the BSX800 and BSX1000 models offer a great solution to provide higher throughput of 15-25 employees per minute. The BSX800 Compact Walk Through Boot Scrubber Unit uses two rotating disk brushes to clean the sides and sole of the boots, while the BSX800-V uses three vertical rotating brushes and one horizontal sole brush. Both have a small footprint and are ideal for tight spaces and medium traffic applications. The BSX1000 High Capacity Walk Through Boot Scrubber Unit is designed for facilities with a larger number of employees. The BSX1000 uses two motorized rotating disk brushes and two long motorized horizontal sole brushes, while the BSX1000-V uses three vertical motorized rotating brushes and two long horizontal sole brushes. Both the BSX800 and BSX1000 configurations use Alpet® No-Rinse Quat Sanitizer to aid in the boot cleaning, and provide multiple points of contact between brush and boot.
Once footwear is cleaned, food production workers can move on to a footwear sanitation station for maximum pathogen reduction on footwear. Best Sanitizers, Inc. offers two different footwear sanitizing units, the HACCP SmartStep™ and HACCP Defender Footwear Sanitizing System. Both units use compressed air to deliver an atomized spray of Alpet® D2 Surface Sanitizer to footwear soles. Each worker receives a fresh application of Alpet D2 for consistent, measurable results every time. Alpet D2 is a ready-to-use, no-rinse, alcohol/quat sanitizer for food contact surfaces and disinfectant for use on non-food contact surfaces.
The HACCP SmartStep™ Footwear Sanitizing System has a compact footprint and can go practically anywhere in the food processing facility. The unit is foot-operated and only uses 0.2 ounces of Alpet D2 per foot, which minimizes chemical waste and helps control moisture, making it ideal for dry food processing facilities. The larger option, the HACCP Defender™ Low-Moisture, Walk Through, Automatic Footwear Sanitizing Station supports traffic flow and improves pathogen reduction to critical areas of the facility. “This is a significant step forward for food processors looking for an added measure of pathogen reduction. Especially those processors concerned about moisture control,” said Ryan Witt, Best Sanitizers’ Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Food processing facilities, nutraceutical plants, pharmaceutical plants, clinical research labs and clean rooms can use either unit individually or in combination to maximize pathogen protection throughout their facility.
