American Sentinel University Commemorates Constitution Day with Reflection Wall
AURORA, Colo. (PRWEB) September 11, 2013 -- AURORA, Colo. – September 11, 2013 – American Sentinel University, a Colorado-based accredited online university that provides degree programs for professionals in high-demand careers, will commemorate Constitution Day, which is nationally celebrated on Sept. 17, by initiating a weeklong celebration Sept. 16–20 that includes a student essay contest and a Constitution Week Reflection Wall where students, faculty, staff and local civic leaders can share their thoughts about how the Constitutional freedoms they enjoy have enabled them to enhance their personal, professional or civic lives.
Kevin Hougen, president and chief executive officer of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, along with other civic and industry leaders, submitted reflections to American Sentinel’s “Constitution Week Reflection Wall.” The Reflection Wall will also feature submissions by guest essayists, students, faculty and staff.
“The beauty of the First Amendment is that it gives all Americans the freedom of speech, press, assembly, petition and religion. With this freedom we can freely voice our opinions at City Hall meetings, at the Colorado State general assembly and in Washington D.C.,” says Hougen. “Freedom of Speech and the Press allows us to voice our opinion on legislation that could be negative to business development and growth without the fear of being prosecuted. Without the First Amendment, business development and community growth initiatives could be destroyed before they are allowed to mature and grow.”
American Sentinel welcomes everyone to submit their essays about the importance of Constitutional Freedoms to constitution(at)americansentinel(dot)edu. To view essay submissions, visit American Sentinel’s Constitution Week Reflection Wall at http://www.americansentinel.edu/constitution.
“As the Constitution defines the structure of our government, American Sentinel University honors this week in observance of this historical document to recognize the rights of our nation’s citizens,” says Kurt Linberg, Ph.D., provost at American Sentinel University.
Constitution Day (formerly Citizenship Day) commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. It is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens.
“The Constitution is not only a guiding principle for our government, but is also the guiding principle by which American Sentinel operates. This timeless document enables our students to enhance their personal, professional and civic lives and we are doing our part to make the Constitution as relevant today as it was in 1787,” adds Dr. Linberg.
