Attorney Corey Wlodarczyk Coaches UCSD Mock Trial Team at First Round of National Competition
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 30, 2016 -- Attorney Corey Wlodarczyk, a former member of the Seattle University Moot Court Board, is now giving back in San Diego by volunteering his time as a coach for the University of California San Diego undergraduate Mock Trial Team. “This is an outstanding team of aspiring attorneys who recently competed in the American Mock Trial Association: 2016 Santa Monica Opening Round Championship Series Tournament,” said Wlodarczyk.
Twenty-four teams competed in the first round, held at the Santa Monica courthouse, and the UCSD team defeated both UCLA (7-1) and Berkeley (6-1-1). However, they were ultimately unable to advance to the next round.
“I am very proud of the team for getting as far as they did,” said Wlodarczyk, who is in his third year coaching the UCSD team. “Mock Trial teaches them how to work effectively as a team, a strong work ethic and how to take control of the courtroom and cultivate the narrative of events for a trial to convince a jury that your story is the one to listen to even if the facts/evidence are not on your side. Mock Trial also helps teach kids to think on their feet and sharpens oratory skills.”
Wlodarczyk competed on the Mock Trial Team for the University of Arizona while in college and went to nationals, stating it was the most important component to his education. While in law school he coached the University of Washington Mock Trial team to an honorable-mention finish. The experience taught him how to tell a story empathetically and convey it to the jury. “I am taking the lessons/skills learned by participating in mock trial and in my career as a trial lawyer and passing them on to the next generation of lawyers,” he said.
