The Channel IQ webinar on November 20th dealing with unauthorized online product resellers presented by David Howell - Director of Global Brand Protection and Dustin Busmann - Senior Investigations and Enforcement Manager drew over 200 attendees and engaged participation in the Q&A. The webinar was delivered just prior to the start of the holiday shopping season, when online markets are often flooded with counterfeit products being sold at online stores.
According to the ICE, the most popular counterfeit products seized each year by Homeland Security include headphones, sports jerseys, personal care products, shoes, toys, luxury goods, cell phones and electronic accessories. Not only can these transactions put a buyer’s credit at risk by a less-than-honest merchant surreptitiously placing fraudulent charges on their credit card, but they hurt the manufacturers and authorized resellers who struggle with lost sales and revenue to those counterfeit goods. More importantly, it becomes a lost in the trust of the brand and confidence to purchase on-line.
In the seminar, David Howell and Dustin Busmann shared case studies and explained steps attendees can take to find unauthorized reseller sites, and how to uncover the individuals or companies behind the site as a first step in taking action to shut down these sites. In addition, they went through the many varying legalities and protocols involving domains and how to pragmatically interact with governing bodies such as ICANN. The webinar ended with extended Q&A session with attendees. The presentation can be replayed online at: http://www2.channeliq.com/l/20122/2013-10-31/7pw73.
