Emmy Winning Producer Launches Kickstarter Campaign for Film, Cowboy's Girl; Screen Legend Tony Todd to Star in the Lead Role
(PRWEB) April 23, 2014 -- Tony Todd will be starring as Cowboy, a charismatic, funny, yet violent and impulsive man who survives through delusions of grandeur and by manipulating those around him. He has reinvented himself in the mold of the western hero, watching over his rundown world of weekly motels. Cowboy’s crack addiction has led him into a cycle of tragic circumstances, leaving him estranged from his children.
The film follows his daughter, Karina, a successful writer/professor, who travels to the fringes of Las Vegas to see her father for the first time in a decade. Years of family secrets and Cowboy's own denial of her as a child has led Karina to believe he may not be her biological father. Because of Cowboy’s failing health, it is her last chance to discover the truth about her identity, and she knows that this unpredictable man will not willingly give up the answer.
Tony Todd is best known for his legendary role as "Candyman" (1992), and has delivered groundbreaking consistent performances since in other film and TV franchises (Star Trek, Final Destination, 24, Chuck) and many more. Diahnna Nicole Baxter (co-writer/producer) will be playing Cowboy’s daughter, Karina. She has recently appeared in popular television shows (Scandal, The Fosters, True Blood). Mr. Todd and Ms. Baxter previously worked together in the feature film, Shadow Puppets (2006).
Cowboy's Girl is inspired by Diahnna Nicole Baxter’s relationship with her own father, and her struggle to obtain truth and forgiveness.
The aspiration of Cowboy’s Girl is to empower and encourage women to tell their stories and reach anyone in need of healing from the sting of an absentee parent. Baxter states, “This film is for the bastards, the orphans, and the child within that has always felt abandoned. For those of us with broken relationships with our fathers. And for the fathers who didn't know how to be there for their children. It's a film about letting go of our "stories" so that we can move forward to the future we are meant to claim.” Director and co-writer, Andrew Piccone adds, "We are honored to have Tony play the title role of Cowboy. He’s one of the rare actors who are capable of embracing the unique blend of brutality, vulnerability, instability and charisma that this character demands."
