A recent court case resulted in one debt collector paying a $1 million settlement for failing to disclose they were debt collectors.

According to the article, the FTC requires that debt collectors disclose who they are, in fact, debt collectors and any text messages or phone calls must include that information. Any mailing envelopes must also contain only that collectors name and address without any indication that a debt is owed.
